Our Story

Founded in 2017 by Greek designer Ioanna Topouzoglou, Mashu was born out of a desire to create vegan accessories that offered sustainability without a compromise in style. Embedded within the Mashu DNA of the brand is our unmissable aesthetic. Inspired by Art Deco interiors and Cycladic architecture, Ioanna injects a fun, forward-thinking and fearless approach to the design of each collection.
 
Since its launch, Mashu has been committed to driving meaningful change through sustainable innovation and ethical best practice, from materials and supply chain through to production.
 
The brand story, along with the mission to create style that literally doesn’t cost the earth, is ever evolving.

Our Philosophy

Marrying a genuine passion for sustainability with a celebration of innovative and artisan craft, Mashu bags are the ultimate solution for those seeking style that doesn’t harm planet, people or animals.

Our Production

Mashu was born on a mission to create sustainable and vegan contemporary handbags that won't cost the earth and its inhabitants. Mashu is committed to drive change through best practice, ensuring our environmental impact is as small as possible through our production, materials and entire supply chain. We believe a good product is judged not only by its looks but equally through the way it was created.
Our handbags are made in Athens, Greece. We work with local artisans who put a lot of care and passion into each item they make. From our handles, hardware, packaging and handbags, the majority of our components are produced locally in Athens. With the exception of our fabrics which are mostly sourced within the EU and our chains are sourced and made in Italy.
Manufacturing locally builds a healthier economy, has a smaller carbon footprint and supports the countries workforce.
It is the foundation of Mashu to produce in Greece, supporting local artisans and traditional craft to create a positive impart in our community and to keep traditional craft alive.

It's not all about looks

It’s not all about looks. We believe a good product shouldn’t just be judged on how it looks, but also on how it was created. We make sustainable handbags that marry contemporary design with traditional artisan craftsmanship, creating beautifully constructed accessories that feature vegan, sustainable and recyclable materials.

Our Artisans

We have built a strong working and personal relationship between our artisans and us. We are in this together, our success is theirs and vice versa.
By working with local artisans we are contributing to our community of small family owned businesses who practice their craft with passion. We work together to find solutions, innovate and improve our practices and think of ways we can minimise waste within the production process.
Our aim is to support many more artisans through Mashu. To continue the mission to support craftsmanship and handmade products over mass production. Celebrating the individual behind each product made.
As important as it is to us to make sustainable products, we find it equally as important the livelihood of the people who make them. We work with small, usually family run factories or individual artisans whop put a lot of care into the products they make.
